Life in general is a chaotic thing. Demands from work, family, friends, social lives, meeting our daily needs, and even pets; can reach a level that lingers just below overwhelming. Some days all we want to do is scream to release the tension. Yet, we can all take a step back and try to find that inner peace.
Finding that peace looks a little different for all of us. I have a list of go to things that I like to do to sort of reset the way I look at the chaos of my life. It varies based on how much time I have available and how much time I actually need for myself.
To give an example, if all I have is a few minutes I may work on some deep breathing or grounding exercises. If I have an hour I’ll doodle or draw. I’m not artistic at all so my doodling consists of an epic battle of stick figures. Sometimes, I’ll take that time to focus on an adult coloring book where I’m coloring a detailed mandala. If I have a few hours, then I’ll go to the gym and get in a solid work out.
If I have, or really need a day, I’ll go hiking. Preferably away from the the chaos of humanity. Getting away from it all helps me find that inner peace where I’m not focused on everything else. For a few hours, I can forget the trappings of humanity and truly just be. Just be. Really just BE. The stress fades away. The calm takes over. Things start to fall into place. Then things I’ve been struggling with seem to come to light in a different perspective. Then I can see, truly see ways to address what I’ve been stressing over.
Sometimes, I have the time and ability to do that. Other times I have to put in headphones, listen to music, or a podcast, or the sounds of nature, and take a walk in my local park or even just along a street with a lot of trees. In the end, as long and it will bring me a little peace, that’s all that matters.
In the chaos of life all we can do is strive for that inner peace and calmness. What can you do? I promise if you look, you’ll find one or two things that help you put things into perspective. Those are the things we need on occasion. I try to plan them out, it helps, but I also have a mental list of the things I can do when I need it in the moment.
I see you.
I recognize your struggle.
I admire your strength.
I hope you can see a path to peace.
You deserve it.
You Matter.
